Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can I leave the apple skins on?
Yes. The skins soften during baking and add extra fibre.

Q: Which apples are best?
Firm, slightly tart apples such as Granny Smith, Braeburn, Honeycrisp, or Pink Lady hold their shape well.

Q: Can I use self-raising flour?
Yes. Replace the plain flour and baking powder with 180 g self-raising flour.

Q: Can I make it dairy-free?
Yes. Use a plant-based milk and vegetable oil instead of butter.

Q: Can I add spices?
Absolutely. Cinnamon, nutmeg, or mixed spice pair well with apples.

Q: Can I freeze it?
Yes. Wrap cooled slices well and freeze for up to 3 months. Thaw at room temperature before serving.

Q: Is it really ready in 10 minutes?
The preparation takes about 10 minutes, but the cake still needs 35–40 minutes in the oven. Claims like “ready in 10 minutes” are usually referring only to the prep time, not the full cooking time.
